The 2026 dates
Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday and a postal holiday, so the last delivery day before Christmas is Thursday, December 24. Two dates matter for each region: the recommended order-by date, which lands cards the week before Christmas (LifeCard aims for arrival by December 18 in the holiday crunch), and the last safe order-by date, after which the slow end of the USPS window runs past Christmas Eve.

“Mails by” is the last day the card can be handed to USPS. LifeCard needs one business day to print, which is why the order-by date is a day earlier — and orders placed after 2 pm Eastern count as the next business day.
Why December is different
- Volume. USPS moves far more mail in December. LifeCard’s estimate adds up to 3 extra business days to the slow end of the window for anything mailed December 1–24, so an in-region card planned at 3–5 business days becomes 3–8, and a cross-country card 4–9.
- Holidays. Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) are postal holidays. No mail moves, and nothing can be mailed. They don’t count as business days.
- The Friday problem. Because Christmas falls on a Friday in 2026, a card that would have squeaked in on “the 25th” has to be there by Thursday the 24th instead. Sunday the 27th doesn’t help either.

If it’s after the deadline
Cards are still worth sending. A card mailed on Friday, December 18 to the Southeast could arrive as early as Wednesday, December 23 at the fast end of the window — it just isn’t safe to count on. LifeCard shows “May arrive after the event.” and still prints it the next business day. Many families are happy for cards to land between Christmas and New Year’s; the video behind the QR code plays the moment it arrives, whenever that is.

About these estimates
Every date on this page comes from the same send-date engine the LifeCard app uses: 1 business day of production, USPS First-Class transit windows by region (3–5 business days in SC, NC, GA, TN and VA; 4–6 in the rest of the contiguous U.S.; 6–9 to AK, HI and PR), plus 3 business days at the slow end for December 1–24 mail, skipping weekends and USPS holidays. USPS does not guarantee First-Class delivery dates, and neither do we. When in doubt, order a few days earlier — the app will hold the card and mail it on the date you choose.
